Aaron Judge on arbitration hearing: 'This is a business side of it that I don't like at times'

Aaron Judge will attend his arbitration hearing on Wednesday via Zoom, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, though it’s not something he’s looking forward to.

“It’s all business,” Judge said Tuesday, via Hoch. “For me, it’s plain and simple: I love this team, I love this organization and everything, but this is a business side of it that I don’t like at times.”

The Yankees offered Judge $17 million for his 2022 salary, while Judge asked for $21 million. Judge’s performance this season is not to be taken into account, since the hearings were supposed to happen before the season, before the lockout disrupted the timeline.

Judge’s hearing is the last on the MLB calendar this year, certainly saving the most notable arbitration eligible player for last. Judge is a perennial MVP candidate and the face of the franchise, but come Wednesday, that franchise will be arguing to pay Judge a mere $4 million less than what he is asking for.
