Aaron Judge took home the AL MVP award on Thursday night, and announcing the award was a former MVP and a familiar face for Judge.
Giancarlo Stanton was there to announce his teammate and friend as the MVP winner over Shohei Ohtani, delivering a congratulatory message to his fellow slugger while the two appeared on MLB Network.
“I’m so happy for you,” Stanton said. “Just being able to watch you front and center all year and seeing everything it took, the good days and the bad days, I’m so happy to be a part of it. Enjoy this moment. It’s gonna last forever.”
Judge was appreciative of Stanton’s message, but also had to playfully remind Stanton that he was no longer the tallest player in league history to win the award, with the 6-foot-7 Judge beating Stanton out by one inch.
“I know I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for your help over the years,” Judge said. “All the way back to 2018 when we got you. I was always a fan from afar, but getting a chance to build that friendship and share these memories and these moments, it’s been so special to do with you.
“Sorry for beating you out for the tallest MVP now."
