Many Yankee fans had a bone to pick with the FOX camera crew at Thursday night’s game.
The drama was at a fever pitch in the bottom of the ninth, when Aaron Judge stepped up to the plate still sitting on 60 home runs. Judge had already walked three times, but the Red Sox weren’t about to put the winning run on base, meaning reliever Matt Barnes was about to come after the Yankee slugger.
Barnes did just that, firing a 96 mph fastball that Judge sent towards center field at 113 mph. as the ball sailed towards the wall in dead center, the camera angle cut briefly caught the ball in flight, but so centered on the ball that it cut out center fielder Kike Hernandez, making it appear as if the ball was going to sail well out of the park for No. 61.
Instead, Hernandez settled under the fly ball just in front of the wall, and as 40,000-plus fans groaned in disappointment at Yankee Stadium, thousands of fans vented about the misleading camera angle that fooled them into thinking they were about to see history.
