Aaron Judge leads the league in home runs and is setting himself up for a run at the Yankees’ single season all-time record, but don’t expect him to be showcasing his home run stroke at the Derby this year.

Judge, the 2017 Home Run Derby champion, told the New York Post on Thursday that he won’t be participating in the event this year.

“Nope,” Judge told The Post. “No need, I already did it once. I’m all good with that.”

Judge would likely be the hottest ticket in a Home Run Derby as the face of baseball’s most recognizable franchise and the top home run hitter in the league this season. Judge electrified the event in 2017 when he won it with 47 total homers, but he struggled once the All-Star break ended with a shoulder injury, which can be linked to all the swings he took in Miami.

Judge has 25 home runs on the season, and has said in the past that the only way we would consider participating in the Derby is if it took place in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. Of course, if he doesn’t re-sign with the team, that likely would no longer be a reason to reconsider being done with the event.
