Aaron Judge went deep yet again on Tuesday night, the 51st of the season and the second time in his career that he has hit more than 50 home runs.
As Judge makes his way closer to the franchise single-season home run record, Sal says he is witnessing maybe the greatest home run hitter of his lifetime.
“The best home run hitter I’ve ever seen - I’ve always said [Barry] Bonds was the best player I’ve ever seen - the best home run hitter I’ve ever seen is Mark McGwire,” Sal said. “I think Judge is right there.”
Jerry Recco chimed in with Ken Griffey Jr., and noted that given McGwire’s ties to steroids and the contention that his 70 home runs in 1998 were not legitimate, Sal should declare Judge as the top home run hitter of his lifetime.
Sal says it’s more of a 1A/1B scenario.
“I don’t care that McGwire was tainted,” Sal said. “He was just a pure, powerful, massive human that would crush homers. I think Judge is right there with McGwire as the two best, pure home run hitters I’ve ever seen in my life.”
