Aaron Judge discusses lower body tightness: 'Precautionary stuff'

Aaron Judge sat out a game for the first time this season due to injury concern, though Aaron Boone and Judge himself described the night off as a precautionary measure, addressing lower body tightness that Judge said he has been feeling since the beginning of the month.

“Just precautionary stuff,” Judge told reporters after the Yankees’ 6-5 win over the Red Sox. “Been feeling it for a week or so and just took a chance to take a day and make sure everything is OK and it’s nothing more than one day to just keep it rolling.”

Judge sat multiple games in the first half of the 2021 season due to lower body tightness, and while many feared it was the team downplaying what turned out to be an injury requiring an IL stint, Judge wound up playing the full season and nearly reaching the 40-homer mark. So, Judge seems confident in Boone’s ability to get him rest when needed, and the Yanks have the luxury to do so given their 14.5-game lead in the division.

“It’s just Boonie being precautious with the lead we have in the division and how this team’s been rolling, how guys have been swinging the bat,” Judge said. “Better to take a day off now than two weeks down the road.”

Judge said he expects to be back in the lineup on Friday night.
