One of the newest TV analysts for the YES Network made a bold declaration on Twitter on Tuesday.
Cameron Maybin, who has been largely praised for his work in the booth in his first year on Yankee broadcast, was teammates with both Mike Trout and Aaron Judge during his 15-year career, and he says if he had to pick one to have on his team for the next decade, it would be the Yankee superstar.
“If you’re asking me who I would want the next 10 years,” Maybin tweeted. “I’ll tell you right now after being in the clubhouse with both guys…Trout is no doubt one of the most amazing players I’ve ever seen. But Aaron Judge is the guy that will lead the boys to a championship!”
Maybin added shortly after in another tweet, “Not to mention Aaron Judge is a monster of the diamond as well.”
Maybin certainly isn’t wrong, as Judge leads the league with 21 home runs and is turning in a monster season in his contract year, batting .313 with a league-high 1.059 OPS. Meanwhile, Trout has been mired in his first slump of the season, but still boasts a .957 OPS with 13 home runs after playing in just 36 games last season due to a hamstring injury.
Still, Trout is widely considered the greatest player of his generation, and for good reason. the nine-time All-Star holds a career OPS of exactly 1.000, the highest mark of any active player. He certainly earned his $426 million contract extension, and Judge will be in line for a massive payday this winter if he continues his torrid production. Both are 30 years old, both are among the faces of the sport, but both are still searching for a World Series ring.
Maybin says if he was starting a team looking to win a title, he would take Judge first.
