Report: Yankees acquire Andrew Heaney from Angels for two prospects

The Yankees made a last-minute move before the trade deadline, boosting the pitching staff by acquiring Angels lefty Andrew Heaney, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Heaney has been with the Angels since 2015, and through 94 innings this season, holds a 5.27 ERA with 113 strikeouts. His career ERA is 4.57.

The Yankees dealt away two minor leaguers in the deal, pitchers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero.

The southpaw starter has turned in two straight quality starts, but it has been an up-and-down season for the 30-year-old. Prior to his last two starts, he allowed 22 runs in a span of 23.1 innings, and before that, had another stretch of two straight quality starts.

A former top-10 pick, Heaney primarily relies on a fastball/curveball/changeup combination. His fastball sits in the low 90s, and he has been susceptible to the long ball, allowing 16 home runs so far this season, which could be a concern within the confines of Yankee Stadium.
