The Yankees added some defensive catching depth on Saturday, announcing they acquired Jose Trevino from the Rangers for Albert Abreu and Robert Ahlstrom.
Trevino, 29, batted .239 (68-for-285) with 14 doubles, five home runs, and 30 RBI in 89 games for the Rangers last season. He started exactly half of the Rangers’ games at catcher (81), and can provide backup behind Kyle Higashioka while newly acquired Ben Rortvedt continues to recover from an oblique injury.

The 26-year-old Abreu pitched to a 5.15 ERA last season in 36.2 innings of work, and pitched 16.2 innings in Triple-A. Ahlstrom, a 22-year-old lefty pitcher, was a seventh-round pick for the Yanks last year.
