Yankees add Greg Allen, Rob Brantly, Hoy Jun Park as COVID IL replacements

The Yankees have added catcher Rob Brantly, outfielder Greg Allen, and infielder Hoy Jun Park to the active roster, in order to replace Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, and Kyle Higashioka, who were all placed on the COVID-19 injured list after testing positive for the coronavirus.

In addition, Chris Gittens has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Luke Voit, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee.

Brantly, Allen, and Park were able to be added to the roster without 40-man moves due to MLB’s rules allowing players to be activated without restrictions in the wake of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Brantly has played 34 games for SWB this year, hitting .270 with six homers and 22 RBI. He played one game for the Giants in 2020 and one with the Phillies in 2019, and has hit .228 in 128 MLB games over parts of six seasons with San Francisco, Philly, Miami, and the White Sox.

Allen, acquired from San Diego in the offseason, has hit .263 in 35 games for the RailRiders this season. He hit .154 in 16 games between Cleveland and San Diego last season, and is a career .239 hitter in 221 MLB games with those two teams.

Park started this season at Double-A Somerset, but in 44 games with the RailRiders since being promoted, he has slashed .325/.475/.541 with eight home runs and 25 RBI, and he has played second, third, short, center, and left this season.
