The Martian is back in pinstripes, at least for one day.
The Yankees added top prospect Jasson Dominguez to the roster for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers as part of the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa. where he will play left field and bat fifth against AL Cy Young frontrunner Tarik Skubal.
Each team gets to add an additional player for the game and the Yankees called on the 21-year-old switch-hitting outfielder.
Dominguez is hitting .298/.365/.477 and .842 OPS over 40 games in the minor leagues this season, which includes rehab stints with Single-A Tampa and Double-A Somerset.
Dominguez, who hit four home runs in eight games for the Yankees last year, has spent this season in the minors rehabbing from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last year. He missed further time after going on the injured list with an oblique strain in June, but returned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in late July.
With the team struggling offensively outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, many fans have clamored for Dominguez to be called up, although GM Brian Cashman recently said there is no current lane for the team to bring him up, so it seems unlikely we’ll see him again unless something changes or they call him up when the rosters expand in September.
