Team USA’s coaching staff at the World Baseball Classic is going to be loaded with former big-league greats, including two notable former Yankees and one notable former Yankee tormentor.

Andy Pettitte was announced as the team’s pitching coach on Tuesday, and the bullpen coach will be Dave Righetti, who threw a no-hitter for the Yanks in 1983 against the Red Sox and went on to be a pitching coach after his 16-year playing career. He won three World Series as pitching coach for the Giants.

The team’s hitting coach is Ken Griffey Jr., the Hall of Famer who played on Team USA’s inaugural team in 2006. This will be Griffey’s professional coaching debut after a legendary career with the Mariners, Reds, and White Sox.

Team USA will be going for two straight wins at the World Baseball Classic, winning gold in 2017 before COVID-19 pushed the event back to 2023.
