The Yankees are spoiling Aaron Judge's chase for home run history

Aaron Judge reached a monumental landmark with his 50th home run on Monday night, but C-Mac wasn’t able to enjoy it.

Even a historic home run chase hasn’t been enough to wash away the bad taste of a crumbling lead in the AL East.

“They are ruining this home run chase for Judge,” C-Mac said. “This was supposed to be when they were up 15 games...they’re ruining it! We were supposed to have a cakewalk of a year, sit back and watch Aaron Judge hit 50 home runs, 60 home runs. We were gonna sit back and watch it with a division title in our back pocket.

“Last night, 50 was hit, and it didn’t matter. It’s nice, I’m glad he did it, but it’s even ruining it for him, and it shouldn’t, because this guy bet on himself. He’s done everything you could possibly ask for.”

The Yankees held a 15-game lead back in June, and it was shaping up to be a summer where the Yanks could coast to a division crown and enjoy Judge’s pursuit of history. But now, the stretch run has become about avoiding a monumental collapse, not about Judge taking down a historic record.

“He was carrying this team to its best regular season since 1998, and it’s all falling apart, and neither he nor any of us can enjoy this 50-home run season,” C-Mac said. “As soon as he hit it I said, ‘Who cares? They’re not gonna win the game.’”
