After suffering a tough loss at Fenway on Friday night, the Yankees will now wait to see if they also suffered a tough loss on the mound.

Zack Britton, not far removed from his return from elbow surgery, had to leave the game on Friday after grabbing at his hamstring and quickly limped off the field, struggling to make his way down the dugout steps and into the visitors clubhouse.

Manager Aaron Boone said after the game that it was indeed a hamstring issue for the lefty reliever, though the severity is not yet known.

“We’ll know [Saturday],” Boone said. “We’ll know whether it’s a cramp or a strain or whatever, but it was in the hamstring area.”

Britton lasted just a third of an inning, issuing a walk in the eighth as the Yankees were trying to keep it at a one-run game. But he was quickly replaced by Luis Cessa.

Losing Britton would be a tough break for the Yankees, who have watched Jonathan Loaisiga and Aroldis Chapman suffer implosions in relief in recent games, while Britton was early on in his return from elbow surgery and getting back into the groove of the season.

“I thought [Friday], probably throwing the ball as well as we’ve seen him,” Boone said. “I thought he was really crisp. I thought it was coming out really nice, the sinker, threw some good sliders, especially to Devers there. we’ll see what we have [Saturday], but certainly feel for him.

“Hopefully it’s nothing too serious, we’ll have to see. But you definitely feel for Britt in that spot knowing what he’s been through to get back.”
