BT: Yankees would be better with Xander Bogaerts and Trea Turner as Aaron Judge consolation

Buster Olney appeared on Audacy’s “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast with Rob Bradford, and reported that if the Yankees don’t sign Aaron Judge, Xander Bogaerts could become the team’s top free agent target, with Trea Turner also a potential option.

That possibility got Tiki and Tierney thinking: which would be the better outcome for the Yanks in terms of the quality of the team, bringing back Judge or signing Bogaerts and Turner?

“I don’t think there’s much of an argument,” BT said. “If Bogaerts and Turner are on the Yankees vs. Judge and just retention rather than adding, Yankees are better with Bogaerts and Turner as opposed to Judge and running it back.

“Bogaerts, three of the last four years he’s hit over .300. he’s a beast. He’s a terrific player. And Trea Turner to me is one of the six or seven most dynamic players in the game. This is not anti-Judge, I really hope it works out with Aaron Judge…but I think the Yanks are better with the duo.”

Judge is arguably the best hitter in the game, but Bogaerts and Turner would give New York two dynamic and consistent infield bats, though BT would rather see the team do what they’re financially capable of doing, and simply sign all three.

“I’ll tell you what they should do: get them all,” BT said. “You like Bogaerts and Turner but only if you don’t get Judge?”
