The Blue Jays are now within nine games of the Yankees in the AL East, with three games still to play against each other this weekend.
Jerry and Gio agree that it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Toronto to sweep this series and enter next week down just six games in the division, and in Gio’s eyes, it would signify the opposite directions that the two teams are heading in.
“They are right now what the Yankees are not,” Gio said. “I know they haven’t been great throughout the season, but it’s that young, energetic, they feel like they’re going in the right direction, where it seems like the Yankees take the field every night thinking they’re gonna lose.”
The Blue Jays fired their manager midseason, so things haven’t all been great, but they do have a young core that, when at full strength, helps make up arguably the best lineup in the league, and they have quality starters like Kevin Gausman and Alek Manoah that can be tough to beat in a short series.
Simply put, Toronto is still dangerous, and Gio isn’t ruling out the Yankees potentially losing even more ground in the division.
“It is beyond panic time for the Yankees,” Gio said. “Is it out of the realm of possibility that the Blue Jays sweep the Yankees here with how bad they’ve played?”
