Brian Cashman was heavily criticized over the offseason as big-name free agents signed elsewhere, and Brandon Tierney says it’s time to own up to being wrong.
As the Yankees hold the best record in baseball, boast a much-improved defense thanks to the team’s offseason moves, and have one of the surprise breakouts this season in Jose Trevino, BT says Cashman deserves his due.
“In my lifetime, there has been nobody as accomplished, no accomplished New York sporting executive who has been as disrespected as Brian Cashman,” Tierney said.
“Brian Cashman was absolutely eviscerated this winter. Brought back Boone, got crushed. Didn’t bring in any big names, got hammered. Perception was he shopped in the bargain bin, and we revolted. All of a sudden, here we are. Brian Cashman deserves an apology. At least I’m gonna give on. Brian, I’m sorry, so far….and I think a lot of people should follow me, because they bagged Brian Cashman.”
Tiki agrees, at least for this season, but understands the criticism of Cashman in the past given the team’s lack of a pennant for more than a decade.
“You can’t ignore the 12 seasons of falling short,” Tiki said. “When your payroll is through the roof.”
