The Yankees officially announced the blockbuster trade for Juan Soto on Wednesday night, and shortly after, their social media team hilariously called back to last winter’s infamous “Arson Judge” moment.
At this time last year, MLB insider Jon Heyman posted on Twitter that “Arson Judge appears headed to Giants,” which sent Yankee fans into a frenzy at the idea that their homegrown superstar was leaving. Heyman quickly corrected his report, telling his followers that he jumped the gun, and Judge eventually re-signed with the Yanks. But “Arson Judge,” thanks to a minor typo, became a viral mantra.
Fast forward to Wednesday night, and the Yankees posted on their X account, “Jon Soto appears headed to Yankees.”
Fans loved it, as it provided a cherry on top for a celebratory night where their franchise locked up one of the best hitters in baseball for the 2024 season, helping wash away the bad taste from last season’s 82-win campaign.
