The Yankees are calling up another outfield prospect to replace the injured Jasson Dominguez.
Estevan Florial, a polarizing prospect in the Bombers farm system, has been selected to the 28-man roster while Dominguez heads to the 10-day IL amid Sunday’s shocking news that the 20-year-old will need Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL.
Florial has struggled each time he has been called to the majors, but has been tearing it up in Triple-A this season. The 25-year-old smacked two home runs and a double in one game over the weekend, raising his numbers in Scranton to a robust .945 OPS with 28 home runs. Strikeouts and plate discipline have always been the concern with Florial, and that has shown itself in his limited big league experience, as he has 21 strikeouts in 54 at-bats in the majors.
Florial has appeared in just one game with the Yanks this season, and didn’t record a plate appearance.
