Yankees can't find takers for Josh Donaldson or Aaron Hicks: Report

The Yankees are reportedly looking to move the contracts of Josh Donaldson and Aaron Hicks, but they aren’t finding any takers.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yanks have been unable to find a team open to bringing in either veteran, as the Bombers continue to try and unload those contracts to make more room to sign a big free agent like Carlos Rodon.

Of course, the Yankees don’t need to move either contract to be able to afford Rodon, but Heyman notes that Donaldson’s bloated salary, as he enters the final year of a four-year, $93 million deal, and his presence at the hot corner took the Yanks out of the running for Carlos Correa.

Per Heyman’s report, teams are wary of Donaldson’s offense, as his typically elite bat speed was not there in 2022, leading to a .222 batting average despite still flashing strong defense at the hot corner. Meanwhile, Hicks, in the midst of his seven-year, $70 million deal, was finally healthy but not productive, finishing the year with a .216 batting average and just eight home runs.
