Carlos Rodon is set to take the mound for the Yankees on Wednesday night, in a game that the Bombers really need to avoid slipping further behind the Wild Card race with the trade deadline drawing closer.
Boomer says the $162 million lefty has already become a “thorn in the side” of the Yankees front office, as the latest pitcher they acquired that can’t seem to stay healthy or productive.
“They spent a lot of money on him, he’s been injured, and he blew a kiss to an angry Yankee fan his last time out,” Boomer said. “Sometimes, you just have to close your ears and not listen. If that were Max Scherzer who did that, how would you feel?
“Rodon has been a thorn in the side of Brian Cashman. He’s one of those guys, it’s like, ‘Why would you sign this guy?’”
Boomer also brought up the acquisition of Frankie Montas, as both starting pitchers had injury concerns when Cashman brought them aboard, and it’s biting Cashman now.
“Both guys have become the example of Brian Cashman not getting the right guy for injury reasons,” Boomer said.
