Carlos Rodon says he would be pitching through injury 'if this was down the stretch'

Carlos Rodon doesn’t sound concerned about his mild forearm strain, as it was an injury he pitched through for much of last season while he was with the Giants.

But now, with the Yankees holding World Series expectations in 2023, he felt it best to address it now before the season starts to make sure he will be ready when it counts, even if it means missing some time in April.

“It’s just kind of early to push things right now,” Rodon said. “I want to be 100 percent healthy…and ready to pitch going into the season.

“I'm not here to pitch until the All-Star break. I’m here to pitch well into October. If this was down the stretch, yeah, I would be going for sure. If it's October 5 or the ALDS, I'm taking the ball.”

With that in mind, Rodon isn’t holding much concern over the injury, especially with the knowledge that the strain was classified as mild, and that his UCL is completely intact.

“My personal level of concern? Me, not much, but it’s kind of just taking it day by day, all these clichés I’m about to tell you guys that you don’t want to hear, and anyone hearing this or reading this wants to hear, but it’s the truth,” Rodon said. “It’s one of those day-by-day things. Hopefully just gain ground on this and feel better every day.”
