Carlos Rodon on streak-stopping clunker: 'Kind of pissed the bed'

The Yankees were looking to keep rolling with a sixth straight win on Thursday night, but instead, Carlos Rodon was tagged for seven runs and put the game out of reach early in a harsh reminder of how steep of a hill it would be for the Bombers to climb back in the race.

Rodon, who lasted just 3.2 innings, allowed seven runs on eight hits before being booed off the mound, an all-too familiar sound from the home crowd when it comes to the Yankees’ $162 million lefty.

“We were on a roll there with five straight wins,” Rodon said. “Just trying to put the next one up. Showed up and kind of pissed the bed.”

Rodon has now made 10 starts as a Yankee, and his ERA stands at 6.60, in a season where he never seemed able to get into a rhythm due to injuries that cost him half his season. On a night where the Yankees needed a strong performance to keep the momentum going, and to trim the Wild Card deficit to six games, Rodon instead never gave his offense a chance.

“Stuff was a little down, a little all over the place,” Rodon said. “They barreled a lot of balls. Just got my ass whooped.”
