Yankees catcher Ben Rortvedt has oblique injury, Opening Day in jeopardy

The Yankees’ replacement for Gary Sanchez may have his availability for Opening Day in jeopardy.

According to manager Aaron Boone, via the New York Post, lefty-hitting catcher Ben Rortvedt is nursing an oblique injury, and is currently not doing any hitting in spring training.

Rortvedt, acquired as part of the trade with the Twins that send Sanchez and Gio Urshela to Minnesota for Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, is still hitting, but with just weeks to go before Opening Day, he may not be ready in time. He was expected to represent a platoon behind the plate with Kyle Higashioka.
