When the Yankees announced the acquisition of Clay Holmes nearly 13 months ago, the response on Twitter was overwhelmingly negative.
Hundreds of fans responded to the announcement from the team with criticisms of the “stupid move” and ripping Brian Cashman for what they thought to be an awful trade. Just over a year later, the tables have certainly turned.
Holmes is currently on a streak of 28 straight scoreless appearances, a mark only Mariano Rivera has also reached in Yankee pinstripes, and holds a season ERA of 0.29 after allowing his only earned run of the season on Opening Day. Holmes has been dominant since the trade, is arguably the best reliever in baseball this season, and has been an absolute steal for Cashman.
So, without further adieu, enjoy the initial response to the Holmes trade from last year, and see how terribly they’ve aged.
