Tiki & Tierney at odds over Yankees' commitment to spending this winter

The Yankees re-signed Anthony Rizzo to a two-year deal on Tuesday, and Tiki and Tierney have differing levels of optimism in terms of what it might mean for the Yankees.

For BT, it could mean the contract came with the knowledge that the Yankees were planning on pulling off a lot more moves this winter to solidify a championship contender.

“Rizzo is a champion, he’s a very well-respected vet, and he wants to know what the deal is,” BT said. “I don’t think ‘We’re gonna try to retain Judge and go from there, and hope to piece it together’ is enough to incentivize Anthony Rizzo to sign.

“I don’t know that they said they’re gonna give a deal to Trea Turner and Justin Verlander or Carlos Correa…but I can almost guarantee that there’s been some assurances to Mr. Rizzo that the checkbook will once again be a prominent part of the Yankees.”

Tiki, noting Hal Steinbrenner’s recent comments that the days of being able to buy a championship are over, isn’t so sure.

“It also sounds exactly like what we’ve seen the last few years,” Tiki said. “‘We’re gonna spend a little bit of money and trade for guys we believe can play. Donaldson, Gallo…we’re gonna pay Aaron Judge.’ If they do get this worked out, how different is it going to be?”
