Sal and Jerry would no longer be surprised by Yankees collapse: 'They're not any good'

The Yankees head to Tampa suddenly fighting to keep a somewhat safe lead atop the division, and Sal and Jerry say it is officially time to worry about the completion of what would be a monumental collapse.

Why? Because the Yankees are not the team they were through the first three months of the season, and this is more than just a slump.

“They’re not any good,” Sal said. “All they do is lose series.”

The division lead is down to five in the loss column to the Rays, who will have a chance to make that two by the end of the weekend.

“There was a time we weren’t even sure if it would get to single digits…but to six games? No way,” Sal said. “If they were in a better division, they’d be out of first place by now. All of a sudden this series is enormous. Realistically, going in, who’s to say they can’t get swept?”

Sal and Jerry certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the Yanks lose the next three, as it becomes more clear that this is more than a prolonged slump, that we are more likely seeing a more accurate version of the 2022 Yankees.

“This is unacceptable. This can’t happen,” Sal said. “The way that they have played over the last two months, that to me is more indicative of who this team is. It would take a miracle to go on a run and win a World Series.”
