DJ LeMahieu dealing with foot fracture, 'difficult road' to play again this year: Report

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has shed some more light on what DJ LeMahieu has been dealing with, reporting that the veteran infielder has a foot fracture that “resonates into the toes.”

Per Sherman, LeMahieu’s injury makes it difficult to pivot on the foot while swinging, which would explain his sudden dropoff in production since dealing with what the Yankees classified as a toe issue. LeMahieu has reportedly tried various potential solutions, like orthotics, but nothing has worked to the point where the Yankees felt like he would be a contributor on their ALDS roster.

LeMahieu tried to give it a go in the final games of the regular season, but still couldn’t come close to the production he enjoyed in the first half of the season. The 34-year-old posted a strong .786 OPS over the first half of the season, but that number dipped down to .635 over the second half of the season.

Sherman reported that LeMahieu hasn’t been ruled out for the rest of the playoffs, but the outlook isn’t great. This would be the second straight season for LeMahieu that ends in injury since signing his six-year deal to remain in New York.
