Domingo German’s 2022 season is off to a strong start, as the righty allowed just one hit over three innings in his first rehab start for the Low-A Tampa Tarpons on Wednesday night.
German, who had been out all season with a right shoulder impingement, retired the first seven he faced in a row before yielding a one-out single in the third. However, two groundouts later, his night was over with just that one hit allowed, no runs, walks, or strikeouts, and 28 strikes on 40 total pitches.
The righty thus begins his 30-day rehab clock, and the Yankees have indicated (as did this outing) that German will be stretched out as a starter. The Yankees’ rotation has an MLB-best 2.xx ERA through Wednesday’s game, leading to wonder where he may fit in, but German is believed to have one more minor-league option remaining and could head to Triple-A as depth.
