Yankees dugout goes viral for playing 'gross' bubblegum contest during game

The Yankees were holding a 2-0 lead on the Triple-A A’s on Tuesday night, and while the Yanks were in the field in the top of the fourth, a large collection of bubble gum wads began to form in front of the New York dugout.

That’s because those who weren’t on the field were taking part in the timeless classic, the “bubblegum game,” as Cameron Maybin called it on the YES Network broadcast.

Matt Carpenter, Nestor Cortes Jr., and others balled up pieces of bubblegum from the railing of the dugout and flipped them towards a drain cover in foul ground, trying to see who could get the closest. As Maybin explained it, the game is like disc golf for players who have the night off.

Not sure who won the game, but as for the contest on the field, the Yanks hung on for a 2-1 victory.
