Yoshinobu Yamamoto has officially been posted to Major League Baseball, and the Yankees are seen as a clear suitor for the pitching star as he is now allowed to begin negotiating with major league clubs.
But according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Yanks are among teams that will show interest in another overseas star once they are posted.
Per Morosi, the Yankees are expected to be in the mix for KBO star Jung-Hoo Lee, along with the Giants. Lee, the 2017 KBO Rookie of the Year and 2022 MVP, has won five Gold Glove awards, and has hit .340 with a .491 slugging percentage across seven seasons. The outfielder missed extended time last season due to a leg fracture, but Morosi says Lee is expected to be ready for the start of next season.
The 25-year-old wears No. 51 for his idol, Ichiro Suzuki, a number that of course would not be available in New York due to the number being retired to honor Bernie Williams.
