One Yankees fan in attendance at Tuesday’s World Series Game 4 four tried everything he could to deny Mookie Betts from catching a pop fly down the right field line in the first inning.
Gleyber Torres lifted a lazy fly ball down the right field line, and the Dodgers' right fielder charged into foul ground, leapt at the wall near the right field corner, and made the catch for the first out. Only, a fan in the first row grabbed onto Betts’ glove as he came down from his jump, clutched onto the glove for several seconds, pried it open and knocked the ball loose.
The crowd roared with pleasure, but the right field umpire quickly ran over and ruled fan interference, retiring Torres.
Betts jawed back at the fan after freeing his glove from the fan’s clutches, and the fan pleaded his case to the umpire and Yankee Stadium security.
The fan was immediately roasted on social media for the move, in one of the wildest fan/player interactions ever seen on the World Series stage.
