Yankees made franchise history in worst way with ninth inning collapse

The Yankees just made franchise history in the worst way on Saturday night.

Entering a crucial game three of the ALDS in Cleveland, the Yanks were a perfect 167-0 in postseason play when leading by multiple runs in the ninth inning, per ESPN Stats and Info.

It’s now 167-1.

The Yanks held a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but five singles, the last a two-run walk-off single by Oscar Gonzalez off Clarke Schmidt, ended in a gut punch of a loss to but the Bombers on the brink of elimination heading into Sunday’s game four with Gerrit Cole on the mound.

The bullpen was an expected liability this postseason, with injuries piling up down the stretch of the season, and it proved to be on Saturday.
