Frankie Montas made it through six innings in Monday’s loss to the Angels, but the new Yankee starter continues to struggle to find a level of consistency he enjoyed in Oakland before being traded to New York.
The righty allowed eight his and surrendered four runs, all via the long ball, including getting burned by a home run by former Yankee Mike Ford, who hit his first long ball for another team to help his lowly .609 OPS.
“I thought I threw the ball pretty good, just couldn’t keep the ball in the ballpark,” Montas said. “Even the splitter to [Shohei] Ohtani I thought was a good pitch.”
Montas says he doesn’t see much difference between his time in Oakland and his recent struggles in New York, except only for the results, which doesn’t seem to suggest that there will be much change in approach on the way.
“I'm still working, I'm still going out there and trying to give my best,” Montas said.
“I keep throwing the same pitches, just a little bit of luck I would say.”
