Gio says he may have met the next Yankees general manager on Thursday.
The potential heir to Brian Cashman? “Seven or eight-year-old” John Gentile, who Gio said approached him armed with a full outlook for the Yankees in 2023.
“A kid who was just unbelievable, he was probably seven or eight years old, and he said he was gonna be the next general manager of the Yankees,” Gio said during Friday’s show.
“He put together an entire packet for me. His name is John Gentile, and he put together this entire packet of what the 2023 Yankees are going to be. Every signing, every trade, the lineup, the relief pitching, the salaries.”
The one glaring note about John’s 2023 outlook? The Yankees will not be bringing back Aaron Judge.
“He’s got Aaron Judge off the team,” Gio said. “Isn’t that unbelievable?”
So, what does John’s 2023 Yankees look like on paper? Well, he has plenty of names returning in DJ LeMahieu, Josh Donaldson, Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton, Andrew Benintendi, Jose Trevino, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Harrison Bader, and has Ryan McMahon taking over Judge’s spot in the outfield.
As for the pitching staff, John has the Yanks finishing what they reportedly tried to start before the trade deadline and acquiring Pablo Lopez from the Marlins.
Boomer’s assessment of the offseason strategy? “That’s not gonna excite Yankee fans.”
