Giancarlo Stanton clearly didn’t like a strike call in his first at-bat of Friday’s game two, then took his anger out on the next pitch.
Stanton showed uncharacteristic bewilderment on a 3-1 pitch that clearly ended low and away off the strike zone, but was ruled a strike by home plate umpire Jeremie Rehak. Stanton threw his arms up in amazement, then made his way back to the box to prepare for a full count against Shane Bieber.
The next pitch was clocked into the right field seats, 105 mph off the bat, for a two-run home run, the 10th of Stanton’s playoff career. Stanton took a second to enjoy the flight of his home run, no doubt less annoyed with the strike call that led to his home run being possible.
It also gave the Yanks an immediate lead against one of the league’s best in Shane Bieber.
