Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the IL on July 26 with an Achilles injury, and nearly a month later, the slugger is still working his way back.
The 2022 All-Star has left behind a big hole in the Yankee lineup, but as usual, the Yanks are being careful with the oft-injured Stanton’s recovery, and Sal Licata says enough is enough.
“This guy’s gotta get back in the lineup…your team needs you dude, get out there!” Sal said in one of his trademark rants. “You’re built like a Greek God for goodness sake, what is the freaking problem here?”
Stanton stayed relatively healthy last season and most of this season until the Achilles tendonitis, but now, with him out of the lineup, the Yanks have fallen into a swoon, and the offense has been shut out four times in the last nine games.
“Suck it up!” Sal said. “You’re a DH, you don’t even have to play! Stand in and swing the bat!
“They desperately need offense, and this guy is, ‘Oh, I need two or three days to get my body, my legs back.’ What? What is going on here?”
Sal says Yankee fans are tired of hearing about Stanton’s nagging injuries and the extended time it takes for him to get back from those injuries, a narrative that has lingered since being traded to New York before the 2018 season.
“Calf injury, Achilles, it’s always something with this guy,” Sal said. “With a body as chiseled as can be…are you injured or are you hurt?”
