The Yankees woke up on Monday morning to the offseason after being bounced from the ALCS on Sunday night, and perhaps some shade from a former teammate?
Gio Urshela, who hadn’t tweeted anything baseball related since back in July, sent a cryptic “Good morning!” tweet with an emoji of a cup of coffee, which many wondered was a trolling maneuver towards the team that traded him in the offseason.
Urshela was traded to the Twins along with Gary Sanchez for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and catcher Ben Rortvedt. The latter made no impact on the season due to injury, while Kiner-Falefa was benched multiple times throughout the postseason because of his defensive struggles no longer making his sub-par bat justifiable, while Donaldson became just the second player in playoff history to strike out multiple times in seven straight games.
Urshela had a better offensive year than Donaldson, but not defensively. Still, he seemed to make it known that he enjoyed watching the Yanks struggle badly with third base production after shipping him to Minnesota before the start of the season.
