Gleyber Torres is used to taking swings at incoming baseballs at home plate at Yankee Stadium, but on Wednesday, he had to take a swat at a big dragonfly bearing in towards his face.
Just as he was getting set in the box during game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader, a dragonfly flew up in Torres’ grill, then continued to follow him out of the box and onto the grass near the Angels dugout. In self-defense, Torres swatted at the fly for a direct hit, knocking it to the ground.
Not to worry, as Torres reach down and gave the fly a gentle tap, and it took off, not daring to bother Torres again and risk another whack, especially with Torres’ recent strength, as he’s already eclipsed last year’s home run total with another homer on Wednesday.
