Boomer and Gio heard some of Hal Steinbrenner’s interview with the YES Network on Monday night, and Gio is just fed up with hearing more of the same from the Yankee owner.
“Those young kids,” Gio said, referring to Steinbrenner’s excitement regarding the team’s top prospects in Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe. “You know what they are? Cheap.”
Gio’s response in reference to Steinbrenner backing Aaron Boone’s job performance?
“Translation: I just gave him a contract extension, and I don’t want to pay him not to manage and another guy to manage because I’m cheap,” Gio said. “Yankees are dead. They’re cheap. There’s nothing about them that’s interesting.”
Gio also didn’t want to hear anything about Steinbrenner’s excuses regarding the team’s injuries heading into the postseason.
“You got swept. Win one game, maybe two,” Gio said. “They also had a guy hit 62 home runs in the regular season and disappeared in the playoffs. And there’s no guarantee that if those guys were in the lineup that they’d hit either.”
