Yankees have discussed signing Jurickson Profar: Report

The Yankees are reportedly considering signing a free agent outfielder who could compete for left field playing time.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yanks have discussed signing Jurickson Profar, a switch hitter and former infielder who played all of his 146 games last season in left field for the Padres. The Yanks have a hole in left field with Aaron Hicks struggling again last season, and while Brian Cashman has publicly stated that he believes in Hicks and Oswaldo Cabrera, the team may not be so certain behind closed doors.

Profar, who is one month away from turning 30, hit .243 last season with 15 home runs, posting an OPS of .723 and an OPS+ of 111, or 11 percent above league average. He had a big impact in San Diego’s Wild Card Series win over the Mets, logging four hits in 12 at-bats, including a home run.

Across his nine-year career, Profar is a .238 hitter with 78 home runs across 836 games. He has played every position other than pitcher and catcher.
