Yankees have made contract offer to Blake Snell: Report

The Yankees are engaged in multiple starting pitching options, and according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, that includes making a contract offer to Blake Snell.

Per Heyman, the Yanks have an offer out to Snell, but the sides are far apart on the money. Heyman also reports that the Yankees aren’t close on a trade for Dylan Cease, as the White Sox are asking for a haul that includes top outfield prospect Spencer Jones.

Given the lack of progress on those fronts, Heyman says the Yankees are looking closer at other rotation options, such as free agent Marcus Stroman.

Snell reportedly likes the idea of pitching in the Bronx, and has experience in the AL East from his time with the Rays. The Yankees may be holding out hope that a lack of other suitors, and Snell wanting to be a Yankee, could drive the price down. So far, that doesn’t seem to have happened.

The Yankees are in clear need of starting rotation help, as their current staff is littered with question marks behind Gerrit Cole. Between Cole and Carlos Rodon, New York already has $486 million committed to the rotation, but Rodon is a major unknown after last season’s debut disaster.

Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, pitched to a 2.25 ERA in 32 starts last season, but led the league with 99 walks.
