Some reports have been circulating about the Yankees’ potentially going for a Carlos Correa splash in free agency, but MLB insider Jon Heyman threw some cold water on those hot stove rumors on Monday.
Per Heyman, the Yankees’ main focus is Carlos Rodon, and the team is “having a hard time” seeing where Correa would fit on the field in 2023, with multiple veteran infielders already in the mix in Josh Donaldson and DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres still at second base, and two hyped prospects in Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe potentially fighting for a role in 2023.
Of course, Correa is a player that any team could make room for, considering he is a better player than any of the names previously mentioned. But Heyman reports the Yankees also don’t see Correa as a fit financially, though across town, Mets owner Steve Cohen is showing that any big-market team can make multiple star signings. But the Yanks, who just spent $360 million to keep Aaron Judge, could spend another nearly $200 million to bring Rodon to New York.
Correa, 28, posted an .834 OPS last season with the Twins, batting .291 with 22 home runs.
