Aaron Boone on Yankees' offensive struggles: 'It's a really good pitching staff, but we've got to find a way'

The Yankees struck out 11 more times in Saturday’s game three loss to the Astros to move to the brink of elimination, bringing their grand total to 41 punchouts in just three games this series.

Aaron Boone doesn’t have an answer to whether the Yankees’ inability to put the ball in play is more because of Houston’s dominant pitching or his own group’s struggles, but if it isn’t turned around drastically and immediately, the Yankees will again fall short of reaching the World Series.

“It’s a really good pitching staff, but we’ve got to find a way right now,” Boone said.

“We know what we’re up against and what we’re capable of, so whether it’s taking advantage of those times you get a mistake or hunting down and trying to take a strength away of theirs in a certain situation, and really look for and attack a certain pitch in a certain situation, we got to find a way.”

There wasn’t much else to break down, examine, or dive into after the game three loss. The Yankee bats have been nowhere near good enough in this series, and have been thoroughly overpowered by Astros pitching. Because of that, the season will be on the line Sunday in the Bronx.

“However you want to analyze it, their pitching, we’ve got to find a way right now,” Boone said.
