The Yankees have quite a few players on the injured list, so part of Aaron Boone’s Sunday pregame press conference was devoted to injury updates for those players. Here are five below, with all quotes from the Yankees skipper:
-Luke Voit is rehabbing in New York, and will see the doctor on Monday for a two-week post-op checkup from the meniscus repair surgery he had on March 29: “He’s doing really well is all I can tell you. He’s not scheduled to start baseball activities for at least another week, but I think it’s gone as expected a couple weeks in.”
-Luis Severino is throwing bullpens and “doing well” throwing both sliders and fastballs.
-Zack Britton started his throwing program last week, and played catch for the second time on Wednesday: “Zack’s doing well, and the biggest thing with his operation was getting the swelling out of there, making sure the incision was healing properly, and getting his range of motion back, which he has. With him being on the 60-day I.L., we can be conservative with how we build him up, because he won’t be in play until the end of May. But, he’s off to a good start so far.”
-Miguel Andujar has been doing tee and toss and “doing well,” and is “probably a week away from batting practice in the cage: “He’s starting to come out of the woods a little bit.”
-Clarke Schmidt is still not throwing, and will get a second opinion on Monday due to continued discomfort in his left arm: “This is a situation where until he’s completely asymptomatic, he won’t throw. He’s gotten close to that point, but there’s still a little bit of discomfort, so he hasn’t been cleared to throw. Because it’s on the interior side, I don’t think there’s any concern (it will require surgery), but it’s concerning enough that we expected him back on a throwing program several weeks ago. Let’s see what the second opinion says, and see where we’re at in the next few days.”
