The Yankees were dealt another pitching scare on Tuesday night when Jameson Taillon took a hard line drive off his right wrist, immediately risking the Yanks losing another starter to injury.
But after an initial fright, Taillon hopes he won’t have to join fellow starters Luis Severino and Nestor Cortes on the IL.
“It's not bad,” Taillon said. “It's gotten a lot better. I was a little worried there at first. Had some pretty quick swelling and was in some pain…got some X-rays and they were negative, and we’ve just been treating it. I’m already seeing some improvement.
“It’s happened to me a few times where I’ve taken it off the head and stuff…it’s always scary. You don’t have much time to react.”
Taillon wouldn’t commit to making his next scheduled start, but he remains hopeful that there is a chance.
“Not sure. I’m definitely going to try to though,” Taillon said. “We’re going to treat it tomorrow and then maybe play catch on the off day in Tampa and see where we’re at.”
Taillon had offseason ankle surgery, has had two Tommy John surgeries, and could only express relief that he seems to have avoided yet another unfortunate injury. Instead, it was diagnosed as a bruised forearm.
“We caught a nice break for once it seems in my career,” Taillon said.
