Yankees' Joey Gallo problem should be addressed soon: 'He doesn't even sniff the short porch'

After Monday’s 0-for-4 night, Joey Gallo is now hitless in his last 21 at-bats, and has just three hits in his last 46 plate appearances.

That has dipped his season batting average to a lowly .169, and his OPS+ is now 21 percent below league average. Gallo has been mostly dreadful at the plate since being traded to the Yankees last summer, and Jerry Recco and Kim Jones, filling in for Boomer and Gio, believe the situation will come to a head soon.

“The one thing I am convinced of: Brian Cashman is not going to let Joey Gallo ruin this Yankees season,” Kim said during Tuesday’s show. “One way or another, that position is gonna be fixed, either by Joey Gallo or someone else.”

Jerry noted that some Yankee fans were excited about the trade when it happened, despite knowing about his high strikeout and low batting average numbers, but so far, one of the most compelling aspects to acquiring Gallo hasn’t materialized at all.

“It was the porch thing,” Kim said. “It was the power bat and the short porch, and he doesn’t even sniff the short porch.”

Gallo has nine home runs on the season, hardly the 40-homer hitter he was in Texas. With nearly a full year since the trade, it appears the time to wait for Gallo to show signs of hope is running out.

“This is what he is,” Jerry said. “At some point, you’re probably gonna have to fix that.”
