When Craig and Evan asked John Sterling why the radio voice of the Yankees was deciding to take some time off during road games in the second half of the season, and Sterling had a blunt response.

“I’m tired,” Sterling laughed when he joined the show on Monday.

“I’ve been listening to my buddies in broadcasting, especially across the way, Howie Rose and Gary Cohen…many others have been telling me for years to take some time off. I really hate going on the road and I’ve been doing it with teams nonstop for 52 years.”

It has certainly been a long and legendary career for Sterling, who assured Craig and Evan that the decision had to do with nothing else other than feeling it was time to spend less hours on the road.

“There’s no big thing going on,” Sterling said. “I’m 100 percent healthy.”

Sterling said he plans to take off about 30 road games, and that it was entirely his decision to make.

“It certainly was my choosing,” Sterling said.

“I think I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I said I was gonna do when I was a little boy…I’m just very fortunate. I’m listening to all my friends in the baseball broadcast business to take some time off.”
