Josh Donaldson's rough season continues with two errors, hitless night

Josh Donaldson’s rough debut season with the Yankees continued on Friday night, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts at the plate while recording his first multi-error game since May of last season when he made two errors in the fourth inning, leading to the Rays’ first run of the game.

“The first one, I felt like I got a misread on the hop a little bit,” Donaldson said. “I got caught on the hop, the second one I just felt like I made the wrong decision where to go with the ball.”

Donaldson’s rough night at the plate dropped his season average to .220 and his OPS to .685, as the 36-year-old continues to show little sign of getting back to the hitter he was in years past.

But right now, he’s fitting right in with the rest of the Yankee lineup.

“At the end of the day, we haven’t been great as a team scoring with guys on base and getting the big hit,” Donaldson said. “And I think it also comes down to other teams pitching very well, and you have to give them credit as well.

“We need to do a better job of making things happen and I'm speaking to myself first and foremost. We get some guys on early, I came up in the first inning with two guys on, not able to drive them in. would be big if we could do that, for myself as well, and build a little bit of momentum early on and score early.”
