The Yankees made sure to celebrate their accomplishment of winning the AL East on Tuesday night, but they also made sure to remind everyone that they were celebrating a first step, not a final one.
“What a year it's been so far,” a champagne-soaked Aaron Judge said. “We're definitely not done, but this is a great first step into the ultimate goal: Going out there and winning the World Series.”
Aaron Boone echoed that sentiment as well, acknowledging that weathering what the team endured in August and still locking up a division title is something to be celebrated, but they’re hoping to have a much rowdier celebration come November.
“Hopefully it makes us stronger moving forward,” Boone said. “Really proud of this. We’re gonna celebrate it, and get on with the business. Obviously, we’ve got bigger goals. We want to win a championship. That’s our stated goal.”
Judge is confident this group will be able to get it done, because they all share that dissatisfaction with just one champagne celebration.
“We’ve got a lot of bad dudes in this room,” Judge said. “Guys that are definitely hungry. When you have guys that are special players and also have that hunger and have that drive, anything is possible.”
